Which languages does voice charting work in?

English, French and German. In every other language the microphone is not shown, and a session cannot be started in a language we do not support yet.

Do I need a subscription?

Yes. Voice charting is part of a Zermmi subscription and runs in a signed in patient chart. The free periodontal chart has no microphone, and nothing on this page describes it.

Is anything recorded?

Zermmi keeps no recording and no transcript. While the microphone is on, audio is streamed to our transcription provider and turned into words; it is not used to train their models, and they hold abuse monitoring logs for up to thirty days. The privacy policy names them and has the detail.

What happens if it mishears me?

You see it before it counts. What was heard shows in amber on the chart and in the panel before it is written. If a wrong value does land, say so and it comes straight back out.

Can it put a number in the chart that I did not say?

No. Only something you actually said can start a measurement. When it interprets a phrase for you it is only ever allowed to change, clear or take back a value that is already there, so the chart cannot fill in around you.

Does the microphone stay on between patients?

No. It pauses after a few quiet minutes and ends the session on its own after twenty. The space bar pauses it whenever you want, and saying stop hands the microphone back without reaching for the mouse.

Does it work on a tablet?

It needs a browser with microphone access over a secure connection. Where that is not available the Voice button is not shown at all, rather than failing when you press it.

Do I have to say it a particular way?

No. Say it the way you would to someone writing it down. There is no command list to learn, and a phrase that is not plain dictation is worked out rather than written down wrong.

Changing your mind

It follows you when you go back on something

It knows a correction from a reading.: "No, six instead of three" has two numbers in it and neither is a measurement. It hears the difference, so you never have to phrase a fix carefully.
It goes back without losing your place.: The value changes on the site you were talking about and you carry on from where you are, so a correction costs you nothing.
It cannot make anything up.: A correction can only change what is already in the chart. Putting a number there in the first place takes you saying it, which is what makes the chart yours.

Provisional before permanent: What was heard is shown in amber, in outline, at weight. Three signals rather than colour alone, because colour alone fails under an operatory light.
Legible at two metres: The current value fills the panel, the two before it sit dimmed beside it, and the tooth and site are named underneath.
Clicks go through it: It is a panel, not a dialog. Nothing is trapped behind it, and a cell you tap underneath still takes the tap.

The microphone

On only while you are charting

The first question anyone asks about a microphone in an operatory is when it is listening. Here is the whole answer.

It runs when you turn it on: Never before, and your browser's own recording indicator stays lit for as long as it is on, so the state is visible outside the page.
The audio is transcribed, not kept: It is streamed to our transcription provider to be turned into words. Zermmi keeps no recording and no transcript, and it is not used to train the provider's models.
It parks itself: A few quiet minutes pause it, and a session ends on its own after twenty, so a microphone left on cannot stay open all afternoon.
What travels, when it travels: The audio becomes words at the transcription provider. Only a phrase that is more than plain dictation travels any further, and it travels as text, never as audio.
